INTRODUCTION

Do you ever feel overwhelmed when you have to take a test?

 

 

Some children and adults feel this way when they have to take a test. This is called test anxiety.

 

What is test anxiety? Let’s watch this video to find out.

TASK

 

The students will use the PPA step: Develop A Solution to determine ways students can reduce their stress levels before taking a test.

 

     Each group will create a poster suggesting 4-6 helpful solutions students can follow to help reduce test anxiety.

     Each group will present their project to the class.

     Each poster should be neat and include writing and artwork (drawing, pictures cut out or printed from the computer).

     Each group member will have to speak and contribute to this project.

 

 

Public Policy Analysis

 

Problem    

    Test anxiety is the number one learning challenge of students today.

     It affects more than 10 million children in North America.

Evidence

     When students feel anger and fear.

     When students feel helplessness and disappointment.

     When students have difficulty concentrating.

     When students think negatively about themselves.

 

Causes:  

 

     Poor study habits.

     Poor past test performance.

     Fear of failure.

     Pressure you put on yourself to do well.

 

Current Policy

     There is no current policy to help students with test anxiety.

 

Solution

     Your task is to develop a solution to determine ways students can reduce their stress levels before taking a test.

 

PROCESS

     There will be 6 groups of 5 to 6 students.

     Groups will be assigned by the teacher.

     Each group member will participate in researching this topic as well as creating the poster.

     Each group member will participate and be respectful and listen to each other.

 

EACH POSTER SHOULD INCLUDE:

     Define test anxiety.

     Give 4-6 solutions to help students not feel this way during a test.

     Include artwork and remember to write neatly.

     Remember to assign speaking parts to each group member.

EVALUATION

CONCLUSION

Students will complete an exit slip and write what they learned about coping with test anxiety.
