INTRODUCTION
400 years
ago, Native Americans of New York relied on natural resources to meet their
basic needs such as food, clothing, and shelter. The Native Americans of New York created patterns of organization
and governance to manage their societies. Each Native American group developed
a unique way of life with a shared set of customs, beliefs and values.
European
exploration led to colonization of the region of New York once solely inhabited
by Native Americans. As a result, Native
Americans' ways of living change.
TASK
Historians,
you will focus on the impact of European colonization on the New York
ecosystem, as well as, the impact on Native Americans day to day lives.
You will be responsible
for:
1)
Researching the topic and
documenting findings.
2)
Creating a Newspaper
article to express to the colonial of New York the impact their colonization
has had on the native people.
PROCESS
Using the AHPPA
1.
Identify the Problem (this has already been done
for you): European exploration led to colonization of the region of New York
once solely inhabited by Native Americans.
As a result, Native Americans' ways of living change.
2. Determine the causes of the impact the colonization had on the ecosystem
and the Native American lives. Using the provided worksheet, record at least three
ways the ecosystem and daily life was impacted for the Native people.
3. Gather the Evidence of changes to the ecosystem and way of life: Using the provided
worksheet, record at least three ways in which Native Americans’ lives changed
(adapted).
4. Demonstrate how the Native Americans dealt with their new way of living : Using the worksheet you
record your findings on, create a newspaper article to express
to the colony of New York the impact their colonization has had on the native
people.
