Are you being bullied?

Introduction

It is the first day of school.  Antwan is new to MS 54.  He stands in the school yard and waits to see if he sees anyone from his elementary school.  He sees Lateak with Mark and Anthony, they walk towards each other.  Antwan goes to greet Lateak in their usual way, but Lateak punches him in the chest!  Lateak has grown over the summer.  He is now 5’9” and weighs 160lbs.  Antwan is all of 5’0” and weighs 100lbs soaking wet.  Lateak tells Antwan that from here on out he has to pay him if he doesn’t want to receive that type of treatment every time they see each other.   Mark laughs, but Anthony thinks it’s wrong but he says nothing.

Bullying is a social issue that knows no bounds.  From school yards, to chat rooms, to one country bullying another country.  Everyone has the right to feel safe no matter where they are.  Unfortunately that is not always the case.  What can be done?

Your class has been asked to learn about bullying both in the past, and in the present, and to teach others how they can help to reduce the incidence of bullying in your school community.

Task       bully 1

In researching this topic, you'll find that any "bullying situation" has a person being bullied, a person doing the bullying, people that watch and do nothing, and finally people that watch and do something about it.

You will be asked to critically and personally respond to a number of print accounts, and visual accounts of bullying using the 6 steps of the PPA.  Responses will be written, and can be either a Power Point Presentation or a Public Service Announcement (PSA).  The PSA can an audio or video-tape.
