Worksheet3:
Determining the causes of the problem
Date: March 17, 2010 Group Members: R.Smith, N.Jones, G.Green, E.Lee
Your
problem (phrase): Increased alcohol
usage from 1980—1920
Briefly list at least three underlying
factors or causes that contributed to the problem that you have identified
(support these factors with evidence if possible):
Saloons were
increasing during the early 1900’s because breweries made contracts with them
that were of great profit to both.
Immigration from
Europe was increasing during this period and new immigrants were attracted by
the saloons where cheap beer could be purchased.
Saloons often had
gambling and prostitutes which resulted in more alcohol consumption.
