Introduction

Being separated from their parents or having inconsistent living conditions for long periods of time can create changes in thoughts and behavior patterns. As almost 2,000 have been separated from their parents due to the Trump Administration's new immigration policy. On April 6, 2018, Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced that the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) would adopt a “zero-tolerance” policy toward every person caught crossing the U.S.-Mexico border illegally. Though crossing the border illegally for the first time is a misdemeanor, usually punishable by a few days in an immigration detention center and then deportation, these migrants are being prosecuted as if they had committed a more serious criminal offense and may be held in federal prisons. As Vox points out, because children cannot go into federal prisons, they are being separated from their parents, with no idea when or if they will see them again. Physicians and Psychologists say these migrant children could suffer both short-term and life-long mental health issues as a result. You will create new policies that help families reunite faster. Many times families are separated for years and years.

Conclusion

The goal of this paper has been to provide information and to come up with new policies about the impact of the immigrant children separated from their parents at the US borders. To better inform the policy discussion about what kind of immigration policy should be adopted in the future. Absent a change in policy. Thus, immigration’s impact will continue to grow if current trends continue.
The mayor wanted to thank you for your hard work and dedication to help solve the problem of the immigrant children left at the US border. Immigrant families and children need our help. Below are recommended organizations you can support to help keep families together.
